Description:
- Beach Cities Health District is a public agency formed in 1955 by the voters of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach to provide health care services in the community.
- The Well-Being Services Department works to measurably improve the health and well-being of beach cities residents through community programs, services, and policy. There are different sectors within the department focused on different health priorities including mental health and well-being, youth ages 0-11 and their families, school partnerships, garden engagement, worksite wellness and AdventurePlex.
- Well-Being Services department is seeking a Program Engagement Intern who can support the multidisciplinary functions of the program including mental health programming support, program implementation of our Mental Health and Happiness Initiative, social connectedness activations and community chats, purpose workshops and mindfulness programs; worksite wellness programming including creating wellness prompts, activations for part-time and full-time staff, and supporting wellness events for BCHD employees and local school district partners.

Duties:
COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH: Supporting mental well-being to reduce stress, enhance resilience and boost connectedness.
- Assistance with Events: Support event logistics including community events, social gatherings, mental health trainings and well-being workshops on various topics. Prepare topics and help to facilitate the monthly Virtual Happiness Chat with community members.
- Qualitative and Quantitative Data: Assist in developing a “by-the-numbers” dashboard and systems for tracking and reporting BCHD and WBS metrics and deliverables. Collect anecdotes for program successes.
- Program Planning: Develop campaigns in alignment with our Mental Health & Happiness Initiative including programs for gratitude, kindness, mindfulness and purpose. Create innovative engagement activities, events, social media and promotion plans. Support the Mental Health & Happiness program launch.
WORKSITE WELLNESS: A comprehensive annual employee wellness program to shift workplace culture
- Assistance with Events: Support the BCHD Worksite Wellness Committee with events and activities. Support local school district partners with Worksite Wellness engagement activities and presentations.
- Qualitative and Quantitative Data: Assist in upkeep of the participation dashboard for the internal program and external partners. Draft annual program report sections based on the results of the program survey, Personal Wellness Assessment and participation metrics. Collect anecdotes and testimonials to report on program successes.
- Program Planning: Research employee wellness best practices and trends. Develop content to enhance wellness challenges (lunch & learn topics, activities and flyers) and health tips in alignment with our WorkWell to LiveWell Elements of Well-Being including physical (fitness, nutrition, sleep), social, community, purpose and financial. Create engaging wellness reflection prompts and activities. Participate in the BCHD Worksite Wellness Committee to gather input for wellness challenge improvements.
Qualifications Needed:
- Strong interest in community and public health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Organized and detail oriented
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs (e.g., Word, Excel, social media platforms, etc.)
- Experience with Smartsheet/project management a plus

Training:
Once the intern clears the screening process, the following training will be provided:
- BCHD Orientation
- Initial training regarding Well-Being Services and assigned community programs by supervisor
- Weekly meetings with supervisor
Responsibilities:
- Check in with supervisor for newly assigned tasks and updates on current tasks
- Exhibit and maintain a professional manner when interacting with fellow colleagues, staff, community members and the public
- Time management and accountability including setting and preparing for meetings, tracking work and progress, establishing a scope of work, answering and returning all emails, phone calls, etc.
- Keep track of all hours and turn in time sheet each month
